2ND ANNUAL MAKIN WAVES HUNGER BENEFIT FOR FOOD FOR THOUGHT HELPS CHARITY FEED HOMELESS ON THANKSGIVING & CHRISTMAS

Venues, artists, businesses & media band together to fight hunger
with nonprofit arm of Langosta Lounge in mixed bill that unifies rap & rock scenes

ASBURY PARK - Every Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter, Asbury Park's Langosta Loungeand its Food for Thought nonprofit host a holiday dinner for the homeless and the hungry. Given how much Langosta and adjacent Asbury Park Yacht Club do for the local music scene, four FREE shows will help offset the costs of those dinners with artist support, a silent auction for valuable sponsor prizes, a 50/50 raffle, individual donations and a canned food drive.

The expanded Makin Waves Hunger Benefit for Food for Thought will take place the weekend before Thanksgiving at Langosta and APYC. Uncooperative weather hit both establishments, their sister restaurant, Pop's Garage Mexican Cantina, and other supportive Asbury Park businesses hard this summer, so it’s crucial that the community “band together” to continue Langosta’s longstanding charitable holiday traditions and will do so with a mixed bill that unifies the city’s and the state’s rap and rock music scenes.

The series of mix bills will blend the hip-hop of Bulletproof Belv, Black Surburbia Music Group, Cook Thugless, Drew the Recluse, Chris Rockwell and Chill Smith, the rock of Sonic Blume and Experiment 34, the funky pop of Des and the Swagmatics, Nalani & Sarina and Evangelia, and the roots rock of Pamela Flores and Tara Dente. All artists are donating their time, talent and pay to help feed the needy during the holidays.

“I think it’s wonderful that Asbury Park has become such a great place to hear and see live rap music and that the rap and rock scenes have unified to present mixed bills and features, such as Matty Carlock on Bulletproof Belv’s local hit, ‘Dark City Nights,’ and their new song, ‘F Being Friends,’ Black Suburbia Music’s Drew the Recluse on The Cold Seas’ new ‘Bloodstain,’ and Chris Rockwell and Chill Smith’s collaborations with Pamela Flores and Tara Dente,” said event organizer Bob Makin, producer of the Makin Waves music column and radio segment. “Their work together and with the very hip hop-friendly Asbury Park Music Foundation inspired this fantastic lineup.”

By making our communities more livable, and more about places, we are also doing the right thing for the planet. Placemaking provides concrete actions and results that boost broader sustainability goals such as smart growth, walkability, public transportation, local food, and bikes, yet brings it home for people in tangible, positive ways. We feel it is important to give people a proactive approach to sustainability in their hometowns. Workshop 2 in the Series of 4 presented by Two River Gourmet Mushrooms LLC.

BOOZE & CHEWS: LAIRDS APPLEJACK 6 COURSE PAIRING

The second Booze and Chews Dinner will feature a 6 course dinner of Lincoln's Favorite meals along with a Lairds Applejack pairing. 

Laird & Company is synonymous with apple spirits and three centuries of family distilling tradition. The company produces the vast majority of all Applejack and American Apple Brandy on the market, which have been enjoyed since colonial times and are equally prized by today’s mixology community. 

Vincent Capitolo, the Regional Sales Manager of Laird & Company, will be on premise to talk about the history of Lairds.

A percentage of proceeds with be donated to a League of Womens Voters.

What is Sustainability Presented by Two Rivers Gourmet Mushroom LLC

In this first event, we will examine the concept of Sustainability, its varied interpretations, and connections with different fields of study. We will explore the concept of the "Tragedy of The Commons" in the context of the morality associated with the exploitation of resources and the human causes of climate change.

Before thinking about efficient ways to reduce our impact on the planet, we need to first establish exactly how much our different behaviors impact our carbon footprint. Future workshops will delve into more local issues and solutions to anthropogenic climate change and will culminate with a Keynote address by New Jersey's state climatologist: Dr. David Robinson on Saturday December 1st.

Malas on a Mission - Mary's Place By the Sea

Malas on a Mission is a partnership between Marilyn Schlossbach, Executive Chef, Environmentalist, Community Activist and Krista Lynn, Jewelry Designer and Spiritual Workshop Facilitator. Going on our 5th year, our Mission is giving the gift of good intention to people as well as local charities.

Mala Beads have been used for centuries as prayer beads in many cultures. Commonly strung with 108 beads, they serve as meditative talismans with each bead representing a repetition of a mantra or intention. Mala Beads are often worn as a protection against evil spirits, to purify ones mind, body and words and to simply remind you of your personal and spiritual intentions.

Join us for a night of creative beading, inspiration, ocean views, amazing food and drinks led by Krista Lynn of www.kristalynndesigns.com. You will learn about the charity of the night, the Mala Necklace, and tap into your creativity making yourself the gift of good intention. Truly is a wonderful night of Community and Giving Back. You will leave with your very own Mala Necklace to simply use for wear or prayer.

Event starts promptly at 6:30pm. We ask that you arrive between 6-6:15pm to gather your supplies.

Event is open to 35 attendees.

Cost: $40/pp wood bead kit or $60/pp - semi precious stone kit

They are empowered with knowledge that will aid them on their road to healing.

Since 2009, nearly 8,000 women with cancer have become "guests" of Mary's Place by the Sea.Our new home is located at 22 Main Avenue in Ocean Grove. Please call 732-455-5344 for more information.

1.5 oz coconut rum
1.5 oz white rum
1 oz pineapple juice
1 oz orange Juice

INSTRUCTIONS
Shake over ice
Servein a pint glass
Top with a dark rum floater
Garnish with lime, lemon, orange & a cherry

The Boys & Girls Club Surf Lessons

Held every Tuesday Morning during the summer with the volunteer help of the Marilyn Schossbach Group Ohana

Food for Thought By The Sea is a Non-Profit Organization dedicated to helping our community and creating a positive environment for the local youth of Asbury Park through educational initiatives that support the environment and its local purveyors with affordable meals in our give-back food programs. 

One of these initiatives is helping restore Merrick Farm in a effort to re-establish its daily operations and continue its history in providing local organic produce.
